I love that God is the Master Artist. He created the earth and filled it with complex creatures and beautiful landscapes. That is why I am passionate about Christians observing Earth Day. I decided to add this latest pack to my list of free devotions for children.
I believe that as Christians, we have a responsibility to take care of the Earth. Not in a tree hugging kind of way. In a “respect for the Artist” kind of way. As stated in Psalms 24:1–
“The earth is the Lord‘s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.”
Psalms 24:1 KJV
The earth is the Lord’s. Let that sink in for a moment. Sometimes, we tend to think of the earth as belonging to the human race. If you own property, then it’s considered that you own a piece of this earth.
When in reality, you don’t own anything. Technically, you are borrowing it from God.
We respect those that lead us, such as bosses and pastors. What if we borrowed our pastor’s vehicle? We would take the best possible care of the car that we could. In fact, before we returned it, we might even vacuum it out and wash the exterior.
If we take wonderful care of the things that we borrow from our friends, shouldn’t we be that much more diligent with what God has blessed us with? Shouldn’t we strive to make certain that our property reflects the lovely creations of God? Not littered with trash and broken toys? (I am totally speaking to myself here! Our broken swing set is proof of that!)
What are some ways we can observe Earth Day and honor God’s creation? First, download the free Earth Day devotional that is located at the end of this post. Go through it with your family on Earth Day and then head outside to do some clean-up around your property. Focus on ways that your family can highlight God’s beautiful creations. Perhaps plant some flowers or a tree. Weed the flower bed. Look around for piles of leaves and broken limbs.
I would love to see pictures of you and your family working outside on Earth Day! Use the hashtag, #earthdayforGod on Instagram and I might just feature your image on my blog! If you are not already following me on Instagram, and you would like to, follow me HERE.
