As I was thinking of where I wanted Jesus Loves Me to go in 2017, one word kept repeating itself over in my head:
My thoughts were filled with all of the hate-spewed social media posts that I saw after the election. They were on the injustices towards minorities. They were on the police men and women that brave their lives every day as they suit up. My thoughts were on the refugee’s that had to flee a country, all because of someone’s hatred. They were on the homeless man, sitting at a street corner.
I thought about all the sad, hateful things that were taking place around me. And one thing seemed to shine through-God’s Love.
His love is patient. It is kind. It does not dishonor others. It is not easily angered. It always protects. Always hopes.
God’s love never fails.
In John 13:34, Jesus commands His disciples to “Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”
If God’s love is patient, shouldn’t we extend that same patience with the person that asks us the same question for the twentieth time? If God’s love is kind, shouldn’t we be kind to the person that is hurting because they were displaced from their home in a war-torn society? If God’s love doesn’t dishonor others, shouldn’t we respect ALL people, regardless of skin color or religion? If God’s love is not easily angered, shouldn’t we keep our political views to ourselves instead of angrily posting our thoughts on our social media accounts? If God’s love always protects, shouldn’t we protect the little children that don’t have a voice? If God’s love always hopes, shouldn’t we spread His hope of Heaven? If God’s love never fails, shouldn’t we love those in our little worlds so much, that they know they always have a place to feel loved?
If, one-by-one, we start teaching our children to love others as much as Jesus loves us, maybe they can share the message of salvation with someone who is desperate to feel God’s love.
Teaching our children to share the love of God is what I will be focusing on the entire year of 2017. I am very excited to see how extending love to someone can really change their life.
I hope you will join me in the new year as I share God’s love with my children. Don’t forget to subscribe to keep up-to-date on the devotionals and freebies that will be coming your way!
