You may wonder why I would do a devo on lemons. The honest answer? Because life is tough. It’s hard and, at times, heart-breaking. Now don’t get me wrong, life isn’t always this way. But there are times when we don’t know what to do or say. The times when people in our lives fail us. The times when we lose our job or get passed over for a promotion. The times when we look at our bank account and wonder how we will make it until the next paycheck. Those are the lemons. And the way we make it through those hard times is what shows our “lemonade” or character.
Joseph is the perfect example of a person who was handed an armful of lemons. His brothers hated him so much they sold him into slavery and told their father he was dead. He was wronged by Potiphar’s wife and forgotten by the butler. Joseph had every reason to feel bitter and hurt. But instead, he chose to follow God and not stay just a lemon. When you read the scripture, you will see that through every situation, Joseph, time and time again, chose to make “lemonade” and make the best of his circumstances.
That is the lesson I hope me and my family, as well as yours, can walk away with after reading this week’s devotional.
As with the majority of my other devo’s, this is five days’ worth of devotionals you can read to your children. If you would like to add a craft on Friday, make sure to follow me on Pinterest, where I will be pinning craft idea’s to go along with all my devotions!
I hope this devotional blesses you and your family!
