For The Working Moms- Making Weekends Intentional

I am straying away from devotions today and blogging about something that I have a real passion about. I have a passion for working mothers. I know how hard it is. So working mothers who want to raise Godly, responsible children are my passion.

How can we maximize the short two days we get with our family? Let's look at some things we can do.

1. Do not use Saturday to clean all day- Okay, so I am guilty of this one. It seems like I clean all day Saturday and even Sunday afternoon. I want to stop that. We are going to take an hour on Thursday or Friday and all four of us work together. I also asked if we could clean the kitchen as a family every night because it is just too much for me to do by myself with also doing lunches, baths and laying clothes out for the next day. I am hoping these two changes will make a big difference in the way I spend my Saturdays now.

2. Plan one family activity every weekend- Things that are on my list are Children's Museum, Indoor Snowball Fight, teach my daughter to sew, play board games, play messy Twister (yes, I really want to do this!), play tag, take them to the park, or just sit on the couch all day and watch their favorite cartoons! *Note- I do not advocate revolving your life around your child. I feel like children should learn to play by themselves and not expect parents to entertain them at all times. But, since I don't get to spend as much time with my children throughout the week as I would like, I want to make sure my family does one activity together.

3. Take time and read a full chapter from the Bible- If I get devotions in during the week, it is usually what I post here. Just a short verse or two. While I believe in short and sweet for the busy mom during the week, I don't want to forget the importance of slowing down on the weekends and reading my children full chapters from the Bible.

4. Hug your child as often as you can- I really miss my kids while working and I try to hug them on the weekends as much as I can. They eat it up, too! They love all the attention.

5. Take them to church on Sunday- Please, take your children to church. My parents made sure me and my brother were in church every Sunday, when possible. I look back and see that the influence of attending church has shaped my very being into who I am today. That consistent attendance has helped me to be faithful even when my husband has decided not to attend or I am feeling tired. It is extremely hard, sometimes. But I realize that I can impact my children's future by me being faithful to church. Now I am not saying you have to participate in every church activity. Don't feel pressured to do all the Bible studies, choirs and classes your church offers. Do what is comfortable for your family and leaves you with most of your time being spent with them.

I could go on and on with this post, but I will stop right here. This is just a short list at what I do and what I am going to work on doing to make my weekends intentional. Intentional about spending time with my children and teaching them about God!

What are some ways you make your weekends intentional?

Praise Ye The Lord- Day Two

How was your Monday? Ours was pretty good. It is supposed to turn frigid temperatures tomorrow so we enjoyed the semi-enjoyable weather today!

Here is part two of the worship series. We take a look at one of the ways you can worship God, through singing. Singing is so important and is mentioned several times in the Bible as a way to worship.

Enjoy!

Praise Ye The Lord

This week for devotions, I wanted to share with my kids the reason we were created. The very reason God brought us into this world. To worship Him.

We can worship God so many ways and I hope to explore that with my children this week!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend and even though it is Monday, Praise Ye the Lord!

Psalms 23:3

How did everyone's Monday go? Is Monday a hard day in your house? It is usually a difficult day, especially for my two year old son. My kids get up around 5:30, so by 6:00 that night, Colton is done! It can be hard for me to know how to discipline, because on one side I know he is exhausted from the long day, but at the same time, I know he needs to learn that he needs to obey, even when he doesn't feel like it. Do any seasoned moms have some advice for me? I would love any suggestions or tips. I would love to stay at home, because when we are home is attitude is totally different. I'm praying that one day that is possible!

Here is devotions for January 15th! Enjoy and have a great Tuesday!

Psalms 23

Whew, after all my family had the stomach bug, we are all back to being well! We have had a horrible time with sickness lately, and I am done. I just want my family back well again (and to stay well for more than a week!).

This week I decided to go with another popular passage of scripture, Psalms 23, for devotions. I really want my kids to learn this chapter, and in fact will have my oldest child (who is six) memorize the whole chapter. It will take her longer than a week, though.

I decided to try something different with the devotions, so please let me know how you like them. I am uploading them for you to download onto your computer and print them as you like. I knew that having a hard copy of the devotions in my hand would be so awesome, so I came up with this!

The link to the lyrics for the song of the week is here: Lyrics (I will only be singing the 1st and 3rd verses with my children).

Here is the song from YouTube.

Hope you have a wonderful Monday!

Luke 12:6,7

Well, I have a confession to make! Me and my kiddos didn't get our devotions done today! Things just happened and we didn't get them read. I hope to catch up this weekend!

Devotions for January 9th

Sing Jesus Love Me and review memory verse, John 3:16,17

Read Luke 12:6,7

"We are still talking about how much God loves us. Luke 12:6,7 says that God loves the birds so much and He doesn't forget them. Well, God loves us so much more than the birds! He knows how many hairs is on our head! How many hairs do you think is on your head? Lets count! (Start counting, then finally give up!) We have so much hair! Isn't it awesome that God loves us that much?"

Pray and thank God for loving the birds and for loving us even more!

Have a blessed Wednesday and don't forget to hug your child and tell them Jesus loves them!!

1 John 4:9-11

How did your devotions go yesterday? I had to do ours at 6:15 yesterday morning because I leave around 6:30 for work. My two year old son ended up falling asleep during them. Lol! He had been sick over the weekend, though so was really tired.

I did my personal devotions before our family ones and I can say, having devotions in the morning did make a difference in the day, it seemed. It is hard getting up earlier (4:45) but to me worth it! Our evenings are crazy and mornings are just a better time for us.

Devotions for January 8th

Review memory verse- John 3:16,17

Sing Jesus Loves Me.

Read 1 John 4:9-11

"We are talking again today about God's love for us! Here the Bible reminds us how God sent His Son, Jesus into the world so that we can serve God and live for Him. What are some ways we can serve God?

We can serve God by reading His word and praying daily. We can serve Him by helping our brother or sister pick up their toys or help mommy fold clothes. We can serve God by thanking Him for everything He has blessed us with.

Verse eleven tells us that if God loves us, we should love one another. Sometimes it can be hard to feel love for someone when they take your toys away or say mean things to you. But even if that happens, we need to ask God to help us love them. Take time today to tell your mommy, daddy, brother and/or sister that you love them!"

End with prayer, asking your children if they have a prayer request. Even if the prayer seems silly to you (for instance for a stuffed animal), pray it. Their prayers are important to them and we need to show them that no prayer is to silly for God!

Hope you have a great Tuesday!!

John 3:16,17

Photo Credit- This is an adorable free printable!

These are probably the most recognized verses of the entire Bible, so it might seem boring to start off with this first. I thought about what I want my children to know, more than anything else about God, and these verses sums everything I want them to ever know. That God loves them so much, He sent His Son to die for us so that we might have eternal life.

Keep in mind these devotionals are geared towards the younger crowd (ages 1-6).

Memory Verse- John 3:16,17
This will be the memory verse(s) that I will be working on with my kids this whole week.

Song of The Week- Jesus Loves Me
Okay, so I'm also starting off with one of the most popular children's Bible songs as well, but it goes along with the lesson so well! Plus there are four other verses that I don't even know! Click here for words.

Verses of the Day- John 3:16,17

Lesson-
Start off with singing the song of the week. Go through the memory verses a couple of times and then try to say the verses with them throughout the week at different times. You can tell your kids the memory verse is the same verse you will be reading to them today.

Then use your Bible and read John 3:16,17 slowly. Feel free to read the passage to them below, or improvise!

"Can you believe God loves us so much that He sent His only Son to die on the cross for our sins? Sins are bad things that we shouldn't do that makes God very sad. Such as lying to your mommy or daddy or being mean to your brother or sister. But do you know that God loves us so much that He sent Jesus, His Son, to die on the cross and He rose from the dead three days later, so that if we sin, we can ask Jesus to forgive our sins, and He will! He will forgive our sins and we can go to be with God in Heaven! Have you ever sinned? Do you want to ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins and ask Him to live in your heart? If He lives in our hearts, we can go to Heaven!"

Lead your child in prayer, asking Jesus to forgive them of their sins and if they want to ask Jesus to come into their hearts, lead them through that. I feel it is important to not push your children into salvation. If they say no, don't feel disheartened. Just pray that Jesus will open your children's hearts to receive Him.

I hope this blesses you and your family today! It is short, but hopefully meaningful!

How To Use The Devotions On This Blog

The great thing about devotions is you can do them anywhere, anyway at anytime. So how you use these devotions is totally up to you!

Each week, to go along with the devotions, I will add a memory verse and a hymn or worship song. Occasionally I will throw in a coloring page or other activity. You can add these into your daily devotions if you like.

I have a handy print button that will appear at the bottom of each devotion so if you would like to print it out, feel free.

I will be posting devotions Monday-Friday and I will post them the night before. So Monday's will be posted on Sunday night, etc.

If you have any questions at all, feel free to contact me under the contact page.
