But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows. Luke 12:7
Probably most of you have heard the song, His Eye is on The Sparrow. I had that song on my mind this morning and decided to write a post about it!
We had a huge tree in our backyard that would sing throughout the day with birds. We had to get it cut down because it was rotting on the inside. I was pretty upset with that, but I would rather cut the tree down now then have to haul it off top of our house one day. We kept a bird feeder on this tree. Mostly the squirrels would steal the seed. But my daughter loved the bird feeder and she loves spreading seed around for the birds.
What child doesn't love birds? They love hearing them sing and watching them fly. What a great opportunity to spread God's love with them while watching birds. Here are some idea's to help you get started!
*Consider buying a do-it-yourself birdhouse or bird feeder kit and spend some time putting it together with your child(ren). Read Luke 12:6,7 and explain that God loves and cares for the sparrows and birds, but that He loves and cares for us so much more. He loves us so much He even knows how many hairs are on our head.
*Take turn trying to count each other's hair. This will be an impossible task (unless you have a lot of patience and skill!) and will be a great opportunity to share Luke 12:7 and really explain to them the greatness of God's love for us.
*Go on a nature hike. Look up pictures of the House Sparrow and see if anyone spots one while out and about. While on the walk, ask them how much they think God loves and cares for them. Younger children might not know the answer, but older children may. Explain to them God's love and how much He cares.
*During devotion time learn the song, His Eye is on The Sparrow, or sing it to your children at bedtime.
If you have really young ones, you may think it might not be worth it to explain to them God's love. Children, not matter how young, are sponges and will benefit from any of God's word daily. I even like to read out of my "big" Bible to my children. My one year old doesn't have a clue what it means now, but one day he will!
Changing the subject here, I plan on releasing my first Devotion Packet this coming Monday morning! I am really excited about it and will give y'all a sneak peak tomorrow!
But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Luke 18:16
